President Yudhoyono Receives Honorary Degree From NTU

Singapore, April 22 (Antara) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Monday was conferred an honorary doctorate degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). President Yudhoyono received the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the NTU`s Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) for the close ties he has developed among the various Singapore and Indonesian think-tanks as well as defense institutions. NTU President Bertil Andersoan on the occasion said the conferment of the honorary doctorate degree to President Yudhoyono was part of Singapore`s acknowledgement of Yudhoyono`s leadership in public services and various fields. He said President Yudhoyono has over the years developed close ties between Indonesia`s educational and research institutions and NTU. According to him, Yudhoyono was also a defender of peace, democracy, moderate Muslim and human rights, in addition to his role in the preservation of the marine environment, forest conservation, modernization and transformation in Indonesia. "As one of the world`s leaders, President Yudhoyono has put the future of Indonesia in a strong footing through his leadership and involvement in international activities such as ASEAN, APEC, East Asia Summit, and G-20. Yudhoyono also played his role in achieving the ASEAN Charter," he said. Besides, Yudhoyono also gained his doctorate degree in the field of agricultural economy after completing his study at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) in 2004.
