Qatar Charity Opens Health Centers in Somalia, Albania
Doha, February 28 (QNA) - Qatar Charity announced today the opening of two new health centers, one in Somalia and the other in Albania.
In a statement, Qatar Charity said that the health center in Somalia is located in the Hamraweni district of the Banaadir region, and expected to benefit 10,000 poor families.
It stated that the aforementioned center consists of the reproductive health department, doctors' rooms, emergency, vaccination, laboratory, pharmacy and nutrition department, in addition to service facilities.
In her speech during the opening ceremony, HE Somalian Federal Minister of Health and Social Care Fawziya Abikar Nur expressed her appreciation to the State of Qatar, the leadership and people, for its continuous support and permanent presence to help the Somali people and stand with them in their crises.
She praised Qatar Charity's immediate humanitarian response to the urgent needs in its country in all fields, especially its efforts in the health field and its remarkable cooperation with the ministry and health authorities through building health facilities and supporting everything that would enhance its efficiency and development in the service of people and taking care of their health.
For his part, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia Hassan bin Hamza Hashem praised the distinguished fraternal relations between Qatar and Somalia, adding that the State of Qatar always seeks to stand by its brothers in crises and is keen to contribute to the sustainable development of Somalia through the implementation of development and service projects that benefit Somali citizens.
Meanwhile, Director of Qatar Charity's office in Somalia Abdul-Nour Haj Ali Mursal said that the Al Amal Health Center will be a hope for thousands of Somali families in the districts of Hamraweni and Hamrajib, who need medical service.
He added that last year, Qatar Charity built five health centers in the states of Puntland and Galmudug, in southwestern Somalia, and in the Banadir region for the benefit of 49,200 beneficiaries, at an estimated cost of more than QR 1.3 million, within the agreement signed between Qatar Charity and the Somali Ministry of Health and Social Care to ensure the effective participation of Qatar Charity in health projects in Somalia.
Also, Qatar Charity has opened a health center in Albania's Shijak municipality to provide health services to more than 17,000 people in the municipality and surrounding areas.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, HE the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Albania Ali bin Hamad Al Marri praised the distinguished relations between Qatar and Albania and their people, stating that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to strengthening relations and improving cooperation with the Republic of Albania in various fields.
He added that this health center is a gift from the people of Qatar, through Qatar Charity, for the people of Albania. He noted Qatar's previous support for Albania and its people in various sectors, indicating that cooperation between the two countries will see further progress in the future.
HE the Deputy Minister of Health of Albania Mira Rakacolli, during her speech at the ceremony, thanked the State of Qatar for continually supporting the people in Alabamia, especially during the crises caused by the 2019 earthquake and the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to USD5 million grant for the reconstruction of three schools that were damaged by the earthquake.
During the ceremony, the mayor of the Shijak municipality Elton Arbana commended the efforts of Qatar in helping the people in Albania, lauding the role of Qatar Charity in implementing high quality projects. He added that the health center came in a timely manner, especially in light of the continued coronavirus pandemic, indicating that more than 11,000 people have so far received the COVID-19 vaccination from the center. The mayor hoped for the continuation of cooperation between the municipality and Qatar Charity. (QNA)
