QRCS Marks International Youth Day 2021

Doha, August 12 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated International Youth Day 2021, which is marked every year on August 12, under the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 120-54 issued in 1999. A series of workshops were held by the health education team of QRCS's Training and Development Center. In the first workshop, the technical and administrative staff received first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training to build their emergency response capacity. The second workshop covered how to prevent communicable diseases, mainly COVID-19. Under the title of Youth and Saving Lives, a third online workshop was held for the members of Al-Wakra Youth Center, in which they were educated on how to deal with emergencies. This year's celebration focuses on Transforming food systems: Youth innovation for human and planetary health. Its purpose is to empower, educate, and highlight the role of youths in finding exceptional and innovative solutions for the global issues of poverty, food security, environment, and climate change. The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, stated, "Young people are on the frontlines of the struggle to build a better future for all. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the dire need for the kind of transformational change they seek, and young people must be full partners in that effort". In this occasion, QRCS recognizes the heroic dedication of its young female and male volunteers at the forefront of COVID-19 control efforts. It continues to pay attention to building the capacity of young generations and equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need both to undertake their different voluntary and community assignments and in their future personal and professional lives. QRCS's humanitarian operations and voluntary initiatives are designed in conformity with the UN 2030 Agenda, which introduces the concept of youth social entrepreneurship. It seeks to help young social entrepreneurs and engage them in pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (QNA)
