Reolad Autopass As RRC To Be Implemented Feb 15
By Massita Ahmad
SINGAPORE, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Make sure your Autopass card is loaded with a sufficient amount as past midnight (Wednesday) all foreign-registered cars will have to pay a Reciprocal Road Charge (RRC) of S$6.40 (S$1=US$0.70) per-entry when they enter Singapore via the Tuas or Woodlands Checkpoint.
The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has imposed stiffer penalties on motorists who evade payment of the tolls, fees and charges since Aug 1, 2016.
First-time offenders are liable to pay a composition sum of S$50, while repeat offenders will have to pay S$100.
Motorists who do not pay the composition sum may be charged in court and are liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding S$1,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months for the first offence.
In announcing the RRC on Jan 16, the LTA noted that the new charge mirrored Malaysia's Road Charge of RM20 (US$4.49) per entry for non-Malaysia registered cars entering Johor, which was implemented on Nov 1, 2016.
The RRC will be collected together with the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP), toll charges and fixed Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) fees upon departure at both land Checkpoints.
In his immediate reaction on the RRC, Johor Chief Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin had said it would encourage people entering Singapore daily using their own vehicles, to opt for public transport instead.
He said he understood that many Malaysians working in Singapore generally entered the country using motorcycles and public transport instead of cars, thus, "it did not have a significant impact."
The LTA had reportedly said that the RRC is not applicable to foreign-registered taxis.
Motorists can use the Online Calculator for VEP Fees, Toll Charges & RRC at https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_e_services/online_enquiries/vep.html to check how much ones need to pay.
