Rising demand for roses ahead of St.Valentine’s Day
BANGKOK, February 12 (TNA) - Several rose growers in Thailand are now cutting roses for sales amounting over one million a day, amid rising demand on the eves of St. Valentine’s Day, which falls on February 14.
Rose gardens in Phop Phra District of northwestern Tak province bordering Myanmar, a largest rose-hub in Thailand, growers are, for instance, giving vitamins and watering rose trees, in parallel with putting those ready for sales into boxes to be sent for customers.
Pakdi Dejudom, a committee member of Phop Phra's rose growers club, said on Monday that red and white roses are now mostly sold out, priced at 5-8 each.
Pornpan Manopan, a flower vendor at a major market in the northern resort Chiang Mai province, told reporters that she has already stocked more than 100,000 roses from local growers, all of which have been booked by her customers at a wholesale price of 150 baht per bunch containing 10 roses.
The vendor acknowledged that roses for this year’s St. Valentine’s Day are cheaper than last year’s by some 30 baht a bunch, with red, white and pink roses being in the highest demand.
Although rose prices appear to be cheaper this year, local growers foresaw more lively celebrations on St, Valentines'Day this year. (TNA)
