Security measures stepped up in deep South

SONGKHLA, June 14 (TNA) - Combined government forces have stepped up security measures in the deep southern province of Songkhla, ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, officials said. The number of combined government forces manning checkpoints has been increased while officials search suspicious vehicles entering the key business district of Hat Yai and Songkhla provincial seat to ensure that no untoward incidents happen before or during the Muslim fasting month, they said. Police checkpoint at a village in Songkhla’s Chana district search cars and motorcycles heading for Hat Yai and Songkhla Muang district in order to prevent a violence from occurring after receiving a warning from security agencies. Police also scan identification cards of suspicious persons who might sneak in and create violence in the area. (TNA)
