Sitting of CIS Security Services

Aktau, September 25, 2009 (Khabar) - Heads of CIS Security Services meet in Aktau. The city of Aktau has been the venue for the 27th meeting of Heads of CIS Security Services. Participants in the forum discussed a wide range of issues regarding the increase in effectiveness of information and practical cooperation of the Commonwealth security services against modern challenges. The meeting attendees also discussed the position of the council regarding the optimization of the anti-terrorist centre of the CIS member-states. Secret service officials also shared their experience in the planning and organisation of measures aimed at the provision of security of large international events featuring high-ranking officials and had a listen to the results of the work done by the commission for fighting drug trafficking and the commission for scientific and technical cooperation. The parties were particularly interested in the report on the information security. Now, terrorist organisations use the Internet to recruit new militants, exchange information and coordinate their actions. The sides also agreed on the measures for further strengthening of interaction as part of the CIS to provide mutual security for every CIS member-state.

Alexander Bortnikov, director, Russian Federal Security Service, chief of Russian Special Rapid Response Squad:
- Today, we have signed 7 agreements and a number of documents are being processed now, all the documents are to consolidate the efforts of special divisions and the Commonwealth Security Services in the activation of fight against terrorist threats. We have been discussing the organisation of the council and the anti-terrorist centre next year. Such a document was coordinated as well.

Amangeldy Shabdarbayev, chairman, Kazakhstan National Security Committee:
- The strengthening of Kazakhstan’s international authority is basically achieved by the constructive cooperation of the National Security Committee with its commonwealth partners. It is all about the measures against terrorism, extremism, illegal migration as well the provision of information and economic security.
