Suggestion That Malaysia is in Collusion With Foreign Govt in Death of Kim Jong-Nam is Deeply Insulting - FM Anifah
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Any suggestion that Malaysia is in collusion with any foreign governments in the investigation into the death of Kim Jong-nam, the brother of North Korean top leader Kim Jong-Un last Monday, is deeply insulting to Malaysia.
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said that in response to the press release issued by North Korean Ambassador to Malaysia Kang Chol earlier Monday, which contains a list of allegations related to the investigation surrounding the death of Jong-nam on Feb 13.
"These allegations, culled from delusions, lies and half-truths, are the basis from which the Ambassador concluded that 'there could be someone else's hand behind the investigation', and that the 'investigation by the Malaysian police is not for the clarification of the cause of the death and search of the suspect, but it is out of the political aim'.
"When the Ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, it was emphasised by the Deputy Secretary General for Bilateral Affairs that the police investigation has been done impartially without fear or favour. It was also conducted in compliance with Malaysian laws and regulations.
"Any suggestion to the contrary is deeply insulting to Malaysia, as is the suggestion that Malaysia is in collusion with any foreign government," Anifah said.
The minister said the police investigation had been based on, and would also pursue, all leads available, including leads which go beyond, or not related to, the information provided by embassies and other entities.
He said the North Korean Embassy should cooperate fully with the Malaysian government in order to ensure that the investigation is carried out as thorough as possible, and not to impugn the credibility of the investigation.
Last Monday, Jong-nam was at the KL International Airport 2 at 8am to board a flight to Macau when a woman suddenly covered his face with a cloth laced with what is believed to be poison.
Jong-nam, who had used a passport bearing the name of Kim Chol, sought help at a customer service counter at klia2 and was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital but died on the way.
