Suvarnbhumi Airport asks public not to use floating lanterns during Loy Kratong
BANGKOK, Nov 20 (TNA) -- Suvarnbhumi Airport joined forces with other agencies to ask for public cooperation to refrian from using floating lanterns, balloons, and fireworks during the coming Loy Kratong Festival, so as to prevent accidents on planes.
Acting Commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 1, Pol Maj Gen Thana Chuwong presided over a press conference, along with General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport Sirote Duangratana and representatives from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai), to inform and clarify to the public about safety and accident prevention measures for airplanes during the Loy Kratong Festival 2015.
Mr Sirote said to ensure that the measures are implemented successfully, the airport, together with other concerned agencies have informed and educate the public on the dangers of using floating lanterns, balloons, fireworks, and light beams without control, as they could greatly disrupt aviation operations.
The Suvarnbhumi Airport has also mobilised its employees to present information leaflets to communities surrounding the airport, asking them for cooperation to not float any lanterns or balloons, use fireworks or light up the sky with light beams for a distance of 8 kilometre radius around the airport on Loy Kratong day, as they could cause harm and losses to others, ruin the country's image and violate the laws.
Mr Sirote said if any person, community, or agency wishes to float lanterns, use fireworks, or any other similar items, they must ask for permission to do so, 7 days in advance, from the Department of Airport, as well as inform the airport control towers and Suvarnbhumi Airport of their intentions.
