Thai Army Chief's Two-Day Visit To Malaysia Begins Tuesday

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, April 4 (Bernama) -- Bilateral cooperation at border areas will be among topics to be discussed by Thailand's Army Chief Gen Chalermchai Sittisart during his two-day official visit to Malaysia, beginning Tuesday. According to Chalermchai, the trip is part of his introductory visit to neigbouring countries after being appointed to the post in September last year. "I ask for cooperation from Malaysia, for us to combat illegal border activities concerning trading of goods, drug smuggling and border crossing," he told the media here Monday. Besides issues concerning bilateral cooperation at the countries' common border, he will also discuss with his Malaysian counterpart issues on joint military exercises. Chalermchai will also suggest visit exchanges among military commanders of both countries as a way of boosting bilateral cooperation. During his official visit, Chalermchai is scheduled to call on Malaysia's Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, Armed Forces Chief Gen Raja Mohamed Afandi Raja Mohamed Noor and his counterpart, Gen Zulkiple Kassim. -- BERNAMA
