Thai authorities seize assets of human trafficking networks

BANGKOK, May 7 (TNA) - Authorities of Thailand's Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) have confiscated assets, worth over 189 million baht, of human trafficking networks and are speeding up concluding additional 160 remaining cases. AMLO Secretary-General Police Colonel Seehanart Prayoonrat told journalists on Thursday that AMLO has continued solving human trafficking-related problems in line with the government's policy on concrete human trafficking suppression and has seized the assets of suspects in 262 cases since 2000, worth over 189 million baht. Police Colonel Seehanart stressed that AMLO is speeding up investigating and gathering evidence for the conclusion of additional 160 cases reported by parties concerned. Meanwhile, Thai Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda said that he has ordered all concerned agencies under his ministry to implement measures to seriously prevent and crack down suspicious human trafficking networks, especially in cases related to Rohingya migrants. General Anupong acknowledged authorities from all relevant sectors are inspecting targeted areas to ensure that there is no human trafficking or hiding of Rohingya Muslim migrants in all areas. The interior minister vowed to take decisive action against any government official found to involve in human trafficking networks. (TNA)
