Thailand to add more products on AFET

BANGKOK, February 2 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Commerce plans to add more agricultural products whose market prices are in volatility for trading on the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET). Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom told journalists that four Thai agricultural products, including cassava, rice, canned pineapple and rubber, are being traded on the AFET; while concerned officials are now considering to add more agricultural products whose prices are always in volatility, along with crops which are used in manufacturing energy such as maize, ethanol, onion and garlic, for trading on the AFET. If successful, Boonsong acknowledged, prices of the Thai farm products should become more stable and, simultaneously, encourage local growers in planting the crops. The commerce minister made the remarks on Friday while presiding over the opening of the Giving Ideas on Futures Trading (GIFT), aimed at allowing futures traders to better understand and invest on futures markets worldwide.
