Thailand to help develop emergency medicine standard in ASEAN
BANGKOK, August 10(TNA) - Thailand, through the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM), under the Ministry of Public Health, has been assigned by the ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting to take the lead in developing emergency medicine standard in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
NIEM Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Phumin Silapan told journalists of the information on Monday, saying that, given the honorable role, his institute has worked with Myanmar to design health assistance for the neighboring country to cope with the latest critical flooding, which has affected a large number of people.
Dr. Phumin revealed that Myanmar earlier requested mosquito nets, necessary medicines and medical supplies and the Thai government has already granted them.
According to the NIEM deputy chief, his institute has also contacted the Myanmar Public Health Ministry to prepare quick responses to its possible requests, so have other ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), with the preparations including teams of emergency doctors and search and rescue officials being put on standby.
