Thailand upgrades rest rooms for train passengers
BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) - The Thai government, through three ministries, has launched a campaign to upgrade rest rooms for train passengers nationwide.
Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, Public Health Minister Dr. Rajata Rajatanavin and Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul told a press conference in Bangkok on Wednesday on the Thai government's campaign, jointly launched by their ministries, aimed to standardise rest rooms at over 440 train stations nationwide and on board all trains by 2016.
The three ministers noted that there are now more than 70 per cent of train stations in Thailand where their rest rooms have already met the recognised standard and received awards.
According to the three ministers, rest rooms at stations of and on board high speed and dual-track trains to be introduced in Thailand in the future are also required to meet the same standard.
The theee ministers acknowledged that the move is in accordance with the government's policy on promoting "Thai ways of life" tourism this year, aimed to earn the Kingdom at least 2.2 trillion baht tourism-related revenues. (TNA)
