Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport welcome int'l visitors, beefs up security during Chinese New Year
BANGKOK, February 8 (TNA) - Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport is welcoming international visitors and has beefed up security measures and conveniences for them during the ongoing Chinese New Year festival, as more than two million global passengers are expected to use the airport during the Lunar New Year festivity 2013, or over 160,000 daily.
The Immigration Division under the Royal Thai Police has joined forces with the Suvarnabhumi Airport in mobilising officers to provide the stepped-up security and conveniences to the increasing international passengers.
The Police Immigration Division has also reinforced its officers to facilitate and speed up services at all passport checking booths, both for inbound and outbound passengers, and has even installed automatic passport checking machines to specially provide quicker services to Thai passengers.
Some 50 volunteered immigration personnel, fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and English, have been stationed at the Suvarnnabhumi International Airport as well to facilitate and provide needed assistance to the international passengers.
Meanwhile, Suvarnabhumi International Airport Director Wilaiwan Nadwilai told reporters that there are up to 985 flights to cater the international passengers, expected to reach some 2.16 million totally, during the ongoing Chinese New Year festival, from February 6-10, the highest record for the Suvarnabhumi International Airport so far.
