Thailand's water consumption ranked 3rd highest in ASEAN
BANGKOK, July 17 (TNA) - Thailand consumes as many as 67,232 million cubic meters of water annually, being ranked the third highest among member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Information from the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) and the Royal Irrigation Department
(RID) shows that each Thai citizen consumed 36 liters of water per day in 2006 and the domestic water consumption has kept growing.
Based on the official information, daily use of water per citizen in Thailand rose to 48 liters in 2012 and 119 liters in 2014.
Thailand's overall water consumption is, thus, the third highest among ASEAN member states, after Singapore and the Philippines, where each citizen daily consumes 165 liters and 164 liters of water respectively.
Globally, water consumption peaks in the United States at 575 liters daily, followed by 493 liters daily in Australia and 374 liters in Japan.
According to an MWA report, in which each person is assumed to use 200 liters of water per day, a massage parlor has consumed at least 1,000 liters of water per client per hour and if there are 400 clients a day, it will use about 400,000 liters of water daily, which is equivalent to the daily consumption of 2,000 urban people and 8,000 rural villagers.
Besides, a total of 241 golf courses in Thailand demand about 360 million cubic meters of water yearly, the amount of which could irrigate nearly 200,000 rais of local paddy fields. (TNA)
