Two M'sian UN Workers Allowed To Leave North Korea - PM Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Two Malaysians, who are employees of the United Nations, (UN) have been allowed to leave North Korea, said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
Najib said Stella Lim and Nyanaprakash Muniandy were now in Beijing.
"Thank God, I was informed that the two Malaysians, who were in North Korea under the UN World Food Programme, were allowed to leave Pyongyang. They are now safe in Beijing," he said in a posting on his Facebook and Twitter Thursday.
The two women were among 11 Malaysian citizens in North Korea when Pyongyang announced that it was barring Malaysians from leaving the country.
They were reported to be undergoing a course related to the World Food Programme in North Korea.
Malaysia-North Korea ties became tense following the killing of North Korean citizen Kim Chol, widely reported to be Kim Jong-nam, half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, at the KL International Airport 2 (klia2) on Feb 13.
It was reported that Kim Chol was waiting for a flight to Macau when two women wiped his face with a liquid which was later identified as the VX Nerve Agent. The man died on the way to the Putrajaya Hospital.
