UTeM Launches Rohingya Humanitarian Fund
MELAKA (Melaka, Malaysia) Dec 13 (Bernama) -- Sympathy for the sufferings endured by the ethnic Rohingya people has prompted Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) to start its Rohingya Humanitarian Fund to collect donations to help them.
UTeM vice-chancellor Dr Shahrin Sahib said the donations would be handed over to the bodies managing the collections to be taken to Myanmar to help the Rohingya people who were currently facing a humanitarian crisis.
"The collection will indirectly foster a concerned attitude and build the UTeM community into one which is aware of the sufferings of others," he said in a statement here Tuesday.
According to Shahrin, the first day the fund was launched on Dec 7, it collected US$1,589 (RM7,044.20), and the fund would be continued until the end of this month.
He said the university strongly condemned the atrocities against the Rohingyas and urged that the inhumane acts be immediately stopped.
