Iraq Affirms Its Commitment To Diplomacy In Resolving And Settling Disputes In The Interests Of The Region
Baghdad / NINA / - Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed, today, Monday, Iraq's commitment to diplomacy in resolving and settling disputes to serve the interests of the region.
Hussein said in a speech during a meeting of the foreign ministers of Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Syria in Amman today: "We in Iraq realize that nothing is more dangerous than terrorism and what it aims to weaken the prestige of the state, so it has become our duty to help stabilize the pillars of countries that are suffering from what they are suffering from, because of the multiplicity of agendas, their overlapping, and the clash of wills and ideologies, and the time has come for us to seek to restore stability and development to Syria, and to put its economic resources to serve the state and its citizens, despite the obstacles and difficulties facing this task, but the most important thing is to reach the real beginning, after which we can talk about revision and reform.”
He added, "Iraq calls for the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League repeatedly, based on the foundations that we talked about, and according to the strategic visions whose extents we know, and it is time for the Arab League to take its positive role with regard to the Syrian file and evaluate it in a way that serves common interests, Here, we cannot help but applaud the steps taken by the brotherly Arab countries to restore diplomatic relations with Syria, and what we see in this regard in terms of providing a helping hand in support of the people of Syria. Today, this country faces a major state-building project, and this matter requires more support from us to restore Syria's position and to be an active country in facing challenges.
He continued: "Today we must work to unify efforts with the aim of consolidating the foundations of stability and security in the region, and in this regard we see the Arab and Gulf approach to breaking the stalemate as a brave step, and as long as we in Iraq have tried to find a consensual formula between Syria and the Arab countries to open channels of dialogue and reconciliation in relations, we believe that understanding comes within a unified Arab framework, and that disagreement over certain details does not mean stopping dealing with each other, and today we are absolutely certain that the positive changes that occurred in the relationship between the Arab countries and Syria will reach results whose fruits we can see on the ground.
Hussein stressed that "this meeting is an appropriate opportunity for Iraq to welcome the practical positive steps between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran that come after the agreement between the two countries to resume diplomatic relations," pointing out, "the importance of these steps, as we are fully confident that strengthening relations will lead to stability in the region and enhance its security.
He pointed out that "Iraq is diligently working to bring this agreement to advanced stages because it contributes to giving a strong impetus to cooperation between the countries of the region, and Iraq announced that it is committed to diplomacy in resolving and settling disputes in the service of the interests of the region and its people."/ End
