The Jeddah Summit Is Taking Place In Light Of New Events That Have Positively Affected The Arab Situation

Baghdad / NINA / -Tomorrow, Friday, the Saudi city of Jeddah will host the 32nd Arab Summit, with the participation of a number of Arab leaders in exceptional circumstances in the Arab region, and new events that positively affected the entire Arab situation, including the return of Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations and the return of Syria to the League of Arab States.

It is expected that the agenda of the 32nd Arab Summit will include a number of files, most notably welcoming the return of Syria to the League of Arab States, which is the most prominent event of the Arab House, and discussing the Palestinian issue and the current tension in the Gaza Strip, as well as discussing all the violations of the Zionist entity that are rejected by international law, and all the developments related to the crises that a number of Arab countries are going through, especially the Sudanese crisis and the situation in Yemen and Somalia, and the Libyan file occupies an important place on the summit's agenda and the situation in Lebanon.

The agenda of the summit includes strengthening coordination and cooperation between Arab countries to combat terrorism, exchange information between security agencies, and maintain Arab national security to face serious economic and social challenges that affected the region, especially after the Coronavirus crisis, and then the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and focus on the file of food security, and activating the exchange free trade area between Arab countries, as well as the energy crisis and climate change.

The holding of the summit comes amid changes on the regional and Arab levels, the most important of which is the return of Saudi-Iranian relations, the Yemeni-Yemeni talks, the return of Syria to the League of Arab States, the Sudanese situation, and the continuous endeavor of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America to bring together the Sudanese parties in the city of Jeddah to find a peaceful solution that has so far resulted in the signing of the Declaration of Humanitarian Principles between representatives of the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.

It is expected that these changes will reflect positively on the decisions of the Jeddah Summit, which seeks to move all outstanding files, especially the economic file, which was greatly affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war and the challenges it imposed on the region and the world as a whole to search for quick solutions to avoid an economic crisis.

Yesterday, Wednesday, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the preparatory ministerial meeting for the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level in its thirty-second session, after receiving it from Algeria.

Bin Farhan started his speech by welcoming the attendees in their second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after that he thanked Algeria for its efforts during its presidency of the previous summit, expressing his welcome to Syria's participation in the meeting.

The minister said: "Our world today is going through many challenges and difficulties that put us at a crossroads, which necessitate us to stand together and exert more efforts to strengthen joint Arab action in order to confront them and find appropriate solutions for them, so that our region becomes safe and stable, enjoying prosperity."

He pointed out that the Arab region abounds with human energies and natural resources that require continuous coordination, harnessing all possible tools for it, activating and inventing new work mechanisms that reject internal differences, and reject external interference.

At the end of the speech, he renewed the Kingdom's aspiration to work with the Arab brothers to enhance and stabilize the security of the Arab countries, and to mobilize efforts and capabilities to move forward on the path of development and prosperity to build a future enjoyed by future generations, calling on the Almighty to achieve the desired aspirations of the Jeddah summit.

In his speech yesterday, Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said at the meeting of foreign ministers preparatory to the 32nd Arab summit, I welcome the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, and I hope that Syria's return to the League will be a prelude to ending its crisis and restoring its vitality and presence in the Arab action, stressing Syria has a prominent cultural contribution to the region throughout its history, and it is a founding country for the League of Arab States, and everyone is looking forward to strengthening its role and presence.

Aboul Gheit explained that the conflicts taking place in the world spread turmoil in the international economy, and place additional burdens on many countries, whether in enhancing security or in obtaining resources, especially energy and food, which requires Arab countries to cling to their national interests and work as a unified bloc, coordinate positions and speaks with one tongue. This is what gives weight to its positions and gives them weight, and provides the protective umbrella for the Arab region from the evils of polarization and conflict in the international system.

Aboul Gheit pointed out that the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories is approaching the stage of explosion, with the occupation continuing its attacks on the Palestinians and its practices aimed at preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state, expressing the hope that the Arab summit will come out with decisions that reflect the aspirations of the Arab peoples, be up to the existing challenges and provide Arab solutions to Arab problems, and strengthening the strength and cohesion of the Arab countries and unifies their word.

For his part, Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, confirmed that the consensus during the preparatory ministerial meeting was the most prominent feature regarding all the decisions that were submitted to the Jeddah summit scheduled for next Friday, pointing to the existence of many Arab understandings on a number of important issues and files.

Zaki indicated in a press statement that the meeting touched on various issues, most of which are political, related to the Palestinian cause and the various developments in crisis areas and foreign interventions in the affairs of Arab countries, in addition to adopting a package of decisions submitted by the Economic and Social Council.

Zaki stressed that Syria's return to the meetings of the League of Arab States ushers in a new phase of dealing with the situation in Syria, calling for the need for a tangible Arab contribution to restore security and stability in this Arab country, and to help it deal with all the problems it faces as a result of the previous stage.

With regard to the situation in Sudan, the Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States pointed out that there is a draft resolution submitted to the Arab summit that takes into account all the developments taking place there, in addition to the Jeddah Humanitarian Declaration that was issued several days ago.

Zaki added: "The Palestinian issue, as usual, is a main axis of the entire Arab situation, and we are all following the situation in Palestine and the illegal measures and policies taken by the Israeli occupation government, all of which are condemned by the Arabs, stressing the continuation of Arab political support for Palestine, and there is a committee formed by a decision of the Algeria summit held its meeting today to support Palestine, its membership in international forums and the United Nations, and its recognition.

Zaki concluded by saying: We hope that the decisions of the Arab Summit will constitute an impetus for joint Arab action and an attempt to contribute to the settlement of existing conflicts and mitigate their impact.

The Arab Ministerial Economic and Social Council, which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last Monday, discussed developments in the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, including the Arab Customs Union, Arab transport agreements, and the Arab strategy for tourism, in addition to the item on the second Arab contract for persons with disabilities.

The last Arab summit held in Algeria was the first after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, during which the adherence to the rights of the Palestinian people was emphasized, and the need for Arab countries to play a collective leadership role to contribute to reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and adherence to the principles of non-alignment, and the common Arab position on the war in Ukraine, which is based on renouncing the use of force and seeking to activate the peace option.

It is noteworthy that the Arab summit that will be held in Jeddah is the fiftieth summit of the League of Arab States in 77 years, including 31 regular summits, 14 emergency summits, and 4 economic, social and development summits.
