Book on 100 years of Iranian cinematic ads and posters published

TEHRAN,Nov.2 (MNA) -- A book containing “A Hundred Year of Film Adverts and Film Posters in Iran” was unveiled during a ceremony at the Iranian Artists Forum on Sunday. Painters and graphic masters Aydin Aghdashlu, Mohammad-Ali Heddat, Ebrahim Haqiqi, Farshid Mesqali, Saed Meshki attended the event. Complied by Massud Mehrabi, the book contains over 600 posters and advertisments of Iranian films since 1907 up to 2011 in exquisite printing in Persian and English. The 498-page book, which is released by the Nazar Printing and Publishing Institute, is an appropriate source for students, art fans and scholars. At the ceremony, Aghdashlu praised the book saying that he has seen posters in the collection that have been forgotten. “The book is a document which will remain in our historical memory. It is an authentic academic book,” he added. “I was really excited seeing all these posters in a book,” actor Reza Kianian told during the ceremony. He said that he has collected film posters due to his personal interest and always wondered why these are not gathered in a collection. “There is no art research center in Iran. Our educational methodology is very old so we must transfer our experiences by word of mouth and this is the reason that the book excited me,” he added. At the ceremony, director Bahman Farmanara lamented the artists who censured producers saying that they consider neither box office attractions nor intervention of cinematic officials. At the ceremony, Haqiqi also spoke about poster designing for films. “The one who orders the poster is an important factor as well. Whenever a designer feels that he or she can work in a culture that has a true appreciation of art, he or she can design an appropriate poster,” he said.
