Many Japanese Men in Their 60s Devoted Husbands: Survey
Tokyo, Nov. 14 (Jiji Press)--Japanese men tend to fall in love with their wives all over again when they enter their 60s, with 42.0 pct saying they would marry the same partner again if they had to choose, a survey has revealed.
The figure compared with 29.0 pct for men in their 50s, the lowest figure among all age brackets for married men, according to the survey conducted by a group promoting better marital relations.
Men apparently realize how much they owe to their wives when they spend more time at home after retirement, said an official of the group comprising mainly fashion industry associations.
The proportion was 16.0 pct for women in their 60s, even lower than 22.0 pct for women in their 50s.
The survey, conducted in October online on married men and women aged between 18 and 69, received valid responses from 800 people.
Of all respondents, 33.5 pct said they would want to marry the same partner if they had to start again, while 20.6 pct said they would choose someone else.
By gender, 40.3 pct of men and 26.8 pct of women said they would choose the same partner. The proportion was higher for men than for women in all age brackets.
The survey showed that younger people are more content with their partners than older people, with 52.0 pct of men aged under 40 and 49.0 pct of women in the same age group saying they would marry the same person again if they had to choose.
