Savouring Favourite M'sian Street Food Under One Roof

BANGKOK, June 29 (Bernama) – A total of 68 popular street delicacies from various parts of Malaysia will tickle your taste buds at the “Malaysia Street Food Lover 2019” in Hatyai, Songkhla, southern Thailand.
The four-day programme at Central Festival Hatyai, which started on Thursday, offers a wide range of mouthwatering delicacies, including Nasi Lemak, Asam Pedas, Sarawak Laksa and Mee Kolok, Sabah’s Hinava, nipah leaf otak-otak as well as Apam Johol.
Foodies and tourists who are hungry for Malaysian street food will get the chance to taste Malaysia’s all-time favourite delicacies under one roof.
A total of 24 culinary entrepreneurs from various parts of Malaysia are on hand to serve various delicacies hot from the pot.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry secretary-general Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan said the Malaysia Street Food Lover 2019 tour in Hatyai would offer additional foods such as Nasi Beriani, Sotong Kangkung, Pulut Kuning and Lempeng.
To spice up the experience of visitors, various programmes like a Nasi Lemak eating competition and fun-filled cooking demonstrations by famous Malaysian Chef Jo (also known as Papa Jo) have been lined up.
“The Nasi Lemak eating contest is one of the attractions organised by the ministry to promote our heritage food, where visitors can eat to their heart’s content within a given time period,” he told Bernama.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the Malaysia Street Food Lover 2019 in Bangkok, in conjunction with Malaysia Fest 2019.
Sallehhuddin said the street food tour in Hatyai is a marketing platform for culinary entrepreneurs to introduce Malaysia food at the international level
“This programme is aimed at encouraging the marketing of Malaysia’s unique dishes that are pleasing to the palate of the Thai people,” he added.
