“Mongolia aspires to boost relations with Southeast Asian countries”

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head of the parliamentary Standing committee on security and foreign policy M.Sonompil said it Monday at a meeting with a visiting delegation led by Mr Jazilul Fawaid, a member of Indonesia-Mongolia parliamentary group in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia. Mongolia wants to develop the cooperation with Indonesia, he said and mentioned that Mongolia established the diplomatic relations with Indonesia in 1956, and opened its Embassy in Jakarta in 2014 to expand the cooperation with the ASEAN members. In response, Mr Fawaid thanked Sonompil for the warm audience and said his visit has coincided with the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations. He also underlined that the inter-parliamentary group at the House of Representatives has been focusing on boosting of the Indonesia-Mongolia relations and cooperation, and said the establishment of a cooperation memorandum between the two legislative bodies has strengthened a legal basis of the inter-parliamentary relations and cooperation and will become a basis vital in exchanging experiences, knowledge and information. He hoped that the inter-parliamentary cooperation will significantly contribute to the world’s democracy as well. Supporting the view on a big role of the legislative bodies in the bilateral ties, Mr Sonompil said the current visit will contribute to the inter-parliamentary relations. He said Mongolia attaches big significance to the 11th ASEM Summit that will run this July in Ulaanbaatar, and hoped that it will be attended by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
