Ahmadinejad Confers With Pakistani President

Baku, Oct 17, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday that any effort to divide the region a means to help the enemy plots. The meeting was held in Baku on the sidelines of the 20th ECO Summit. President Ahmadinejad said the ill wishers and enemies of regional nations try to weaken the entire region in a bid to dominate it. “Anybody in the region moving in line with spread of discord and conflict would have a share in the enemy plans,” said Ahmadinejad. He said democracy would never be established through pistol of NATO gun, war and conflict. President Ahmadinejad said that the current situation in the region is sensitive, adding that all countries should be watchful of it. On Syria, President Ahmadinejad said the only possible solution for Syria is finding a strategy for building national understanding and the Syrians must be helped hold free elections. Stressing the need to exercise vigilance by regional nations to thwart plots of the ill wishers and the arrogant powers, President Ahmadinejad said they ruled the region for 100 years and today too they plan to extend their dominance. Zardari for his part said, “Today no pleasant events take place in our region. If no proper action is taken to solve current problems, history will not forgive us.” The two presidents discussed ways to expand ties and mutual and international cooperation./end
