Americans Declare Opposition To Sanctions, Threats Against Iran

New York, Feb 5, IRNA – Thousands of people in 50 US cities accompanied by union members and anti war bodies, by holding demonstrations on Saturday afternoon, declared hatred to war mongering policies of US leaders and asked them to stop sanctions against and enmity with Iran. Hundreds of people in New York shouted their opposition to any kind of threat for military operation and urged their statesmen to end illegal imposed sanctions against Iran. In New York, the demonstrators started their rally from Times Square and by marching in different streets finally gathered in front of the United Nations building. Demonstrators shouted slogans such as, “ No war with Iran,” “ We condemn assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists,” “ War and Lie, never,” “ Wall Street created unemployment, not Iran. One of the protestors told IRNA that US has done many hostile acts against Iran since 1979. He called US unilateral sanctions against Iran hostile, illegal and in direction of hitting Iran’s economy. Richard Grave, a member of a group called “ Brooklyn for Peace” told IRNA that he opposed US war mongering against Iran and considered economic sanctions illegal, because they hurt Iranian people. He condemned assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists and said that US itself has thousands of nuclear bombs, so it is not in a situation to comment on Iran’s nuclear program. Eric Ferret, another protestor, said that US threat against Iran is funny. War with Iran would be a tragedy for US and the whole world, he said. He pointed out that economic sanctions, historically, have always hurt people and there is no justification to approve of them. The US citizen added that according to the international law Iran is entitled to enrich uranium and use peaceful nuclear energy, but they have a discriminatory policy about Iran, especially when US has thousands of atomic bombs itself. At the end of demonstration in New York, a resolution called on US statesmen to remove sanctions or threat to military attack against Iran from options on the table./end
