According to Sepehr Sabour, the executive secretary of the contest, the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) comprises a series of multi-tier contests in order to gain qualification for the global stage of the competition. The 16th Amirkabir International Collegiate Programming Contest will determine the teams from Iran that qualify for the West Asian programming competitions. “The 16th ACM ICPC will be hosted by Amirkabir University and in collaboration with KTH University of Sweden and the Jagiellonian University of Poland,” he said. He went on to add, “the contest will be held among university teams and the main participants are students of computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering and mathematics.” The ACM ICPC traces back to a competition held in Texas in 1970, and has now become the most important programming contest in the world. “Computer Engineering and IT Department of Amirkabir University of Technology has been holding an annual contest since 2001 to determine which teams are qualified for the West Asian contest,” Sabour said. “Each year, over 150 programmers from various universities in Iran such as Sharif, University of Tehran, and Shahid Beheshti University come together at Amirkabir University to compete in the contest,” he added.
