Anti-Islam US Film: Kashmir Leader Calls For Friday Protests

Srinagar, India, Sept 15, IRNA -- Even as Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against derogatory film on Prophet of Islam (P) Jami’at-e-Ahl-e-Hadees said it would announce its program after consultation with ulama of various schools of thought. Both said that Muslims could tolerate all forms of oppression but not insults to their Prophet (P). Geelani said that satanic forces regularly hurt the sentiments of Muslims to compel them to react in outrage to be used for negative propaganda against the Islamic world. “A psychopathic mentality against Muslims is growing in Europe and America which manifests sometimes as books, sometimes as cartoons and sometimes as films,” Geelani said. “What is all the more deplorable is that this mentality is encouraged by states as freedom of expression, and so-called civilised rulers here take no steps to curb this spate of uncultured ranting,” he said. “This actually is a confrontation of civilizations where the West wants to wipe out everything except its own ideology and culture,” he said. “Jews, Christians and Hindus are pursuing a joint agenda against the Muslim ummah, and using every possible means to cause them pain and torment,” he said. “They may have a host of differences between them, but are united on the single point of maligning, subjugating and exterminating Muslims under any available pretext,” he said. The Jami’at-e-Ahl-e-Hadees said that Muslims could put their own existence at stake to uphold the honour and dignity of their Prophet (pbuh). “This obscene film can set the entire world aflame, but Muslims needs to act with sagacity and temperance,” the JAH president Ghulam Rasool Mallik said at a press conference. “These are sensitive issues which cannot be resolved with rash actions. We must be particularly wary of elements who exploit such situations to create discord among Muslims,” he said. Describing the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi as a reaction, the JAH chief said these countries were encouraging insults on the Holy Prophet (pbuh) by creating such situations. Citing the examples of Salman Rushdie and Tasleema Nasreen, he said these writers had been accorded government-level protection. “This reflects that anyone indulging in vituperative attacks on Islam and the Prophet has the backing of governments,” he said. He made it clear that only those guilty of heaping insults on the Holy Prophet (pbuh) deserved to be punished./end
