Chingis Khaan Order goes to G.Mend-Ooyo
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On the birth anniversary of Chingis Khaan and the Day of Mongolian Pride, the State’s first-class “Chingis Khaan” order was bestowed upon a poet, writer and a "great enlightener" of Mongolia Mr G.Mend-Ooyo Novemebr 12, in recognition of his contribution to the studies of national history and culture and traditional heritage.
"Mend-Ooyo is a gifted person, an author of works that have been translated to the most number of foreign languages, among Mongolian writers. He received a prize from the International Poetry Festival by his “Moon Rises above the Old Temple” poem, and other distinguished awards from countries across China to the UK, from Greece to Koreas, India, Japan and the USA," said the President Ts.Elbegdorj during the award ceremony held in Nine White Banners Hall of the State House.
G.Mend-Ooyo is the only Mongolian who has officially been nominated to the Nobel Prize in Literature.
He has attempted creations in all forms of literature. The President highlighted his most recent novels–Gegeenten (The Saint) and Shiliin Bogd.
Mend-Ooyo’s good deeds are well received by Mongolians, as well as internationally, such as the “Megzed Janraisig” and “Mongol Suvdan Sondor” projects, advertisement of Mongolian calligraphy, disseminating the knowledge about Morin Khuur (horse-head fiddle–Mongolian traditional musical instrument) heritage and publishing of journals about Mongolian literature and poetry.
Present at the ceremony were also Chairman of the State Great Khural Z.Enkhbold and the Prime Minister Ch.Saikhanbileg with their spouses, the previous order awardees and others.
Students of the Music and Choreography College performed the State Anthem, “Khaluun Elgen Nutag” (dedication to the Motherland) and “Aav Eej Khoyor Mini” (dedication to parents).
G.Mend-Ooyo is the ninth person to receive this prize. Since 2005, it has been gone to nine people, including the first president of Mongolia P.Ochirbat, State Honored music composer B.Sharav, former prime minister D.Byambasuren, a vice speaker R.Gonchigdorj, a former president N.Bagabandi, D.Demberel MP, a former PM D.Sodnom, and a renowned scientist physicist Kh.Namsrai.
