CIS news agencies told to team up to promote cultural values

Baku, April 20, AZERTAC The 24th meeting of the CIS state-run information agencies was held in Minsk, capital of Belarus. At the meeting, Azerbaijan was represented by Yashar Guluzade, editor-in-chief of the Russian-language News Desk at the Azerbaijan State News Agency. The 24th meeting of the CIS Mass Media Heads Council (the CIS Information Council) was addressed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary Viktor Guminsky, Director General of the Russian TASS news agency Sergei Mikhalkov, Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov and others, who noted that the news agencies in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) need to team up to promote cultural values. According to Sergei Mikhalkov, the CIS news agencies provide an extensive coverage of cultural events, expos, exhibitions, and festivals, Sergei Mikhailov said. As pointed out, every country has a unique culture, and this is a good reason to exchange information in a more effective way. It is important to tell more about the cultural heritage of the CIS member states, its conservation and restoration. The news agencies need to use other platforms to distribute information. This will increase the interest both in their materials and the culture of the CIS ethnic groups. The orator also stressed the need to develop new tourist routes in the CIS to promote the cultural heritage and tell more about the distinctive features of every country. The CIS Information Council has been established in November 1995, comprises the heads of state news agencies of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Armenia.
