FM Urges World To Counter Radicalism, Violence, Extremism

Tehran, Oct 8, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed the need for countries to keep consultations to counter radicalism, violence and extremism, as the challenges posed by extremism are endangering regional and international peace and security. In a meeting with new Austrian Ambassador to Iran Friedrich Stift, he called for the dominance of moderation and rationality over international relations. Expressing pleasure with meeting of the two countries’ presidents on the sidelines of 68th session of UN General Assembly, Zarif hoped that bilateral ties will further develop in all fields of politics, economy and commerce. Referring to the inefficiency of the sanctions imposed on Iran by certain states, the top diplomat underscored the significance of efforts to be made by all countries including the European states to create a suitable atmosphere for maintaining diplomatic approach to solve regional and global issues. Zarif wished success for the new envoy and hoped that bilateral relations will further expand during his mission in Tehran. The Austrian ambassador submitted a copy of his credentials to Zarif and expressed pleasure with the meeting of the two countries’ presidents in New York. He hoped that bilateral ties will further improve in fields after coming to office of the 11th government. Stift also said that he will do his best in line with promoting mutual cooperation./end
