Former US Official Criticizes Congress Efforts To Increase Anti-Iran Sanctions

New York, May 22, IRNA – Former member of the US National Security Council Gary Sick criticized the efforts of the US Congress to increase sanctions against Iran. Talking to IRNA, he said the White House is against such attempts but the Congress is insisting on them because of its internal issues. Sick who is a faculty member in the Colombia University International Relations department said such pressures are aimed at safeguarding the interests of certain members of the congress. He termed such an approach as improper because it will get nowhere in solving any problems in the US-Iran relations. He said that both Washington and Tehran have to take serious measures to settle points of differences, stressing that growing sanctions would certainly not help such a process./end
