German Envoy Not Targeted In Yemeni Kidnapping Attempt: Official

Berlin, Oct 8, IRNA -- Germany denied that its ambassador to Yemen, Carola Mueller-Holtkemper, was the target of kidnapping in Sanaa after unkown assailants gunned down a German embassy security staffer, according to a foreign ministy official. Talking to media representatives in Berlin on Monday, German foreign ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke said the envoy was oustide Yemen when the deadly incident took place in the Yemeni capital. He added the German ambassador was on her way back to Sanaa. Meanwhile, Peschke refused to reveal the identity of the victim or what position he held at the embassy. The German official stressed no decision had yet been made whether the embassy in Sanaa would be closed or not. The German diplomatic mission in Sanaa was closed for two weeks in August, after a terrorist threat prompted the closure of Western missions in the region and other parts of the world./end
