Head of Islamic organization says organization's prestige growing each day
JEDDAH (A.A) - January 2, 20012 - The secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said on Sunday that the organization's prestige was growing each passing day.
Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said U.S. President Barack Obama appointed a special envoy to the OIC and boosted relations between the United States and OIC.
"Moreover, we have boosted institutional relations with China, Britain has appointed a special envoy, and our relations are being enhanced through mutual visits, and all these are examples of how we have gained more prestige in international community," Ihsanoglu told AA correspondent.
Ihsanoglu said leading countries in the world were willing to boost relations with the Muslim world and were seeing OIC as a "door opening to the Muslim world."
The secretary general said it was an indicator that the international community was seeing OIC as the highest political organization representing the Muslim world.
Ihsanoglu said OIC was serving like a bridge not only between countries but also regions, adding that OIC's constructive role in boosting relations between international actors and organizations had increased its credibility in the international arena, increased its prestige and brought it to the place it deserved.
