Iranˈs Offer To Host Oceanography Center For W. Asia Studies Welcomed

Tehran, July 8, IRNA -- Managing Director of Iranian National Institute for Oceanography, Vahid Chegini, said on Sunday that the 27th session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO approved Iranˈs proposal for hosting the Category 2 UNESCO Regional Educational and Research Centre on Oceanography for Western Asia. Chegini, addressing the 15th meeting of the High Council of Union of Universities and Coastal and Maritime Research Centers, said upgrading Iranˈs ocean and maritime standard in the region is among basic programs of Iran National Oceanographic Institute. The program International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchangeˈ (IODE) of the ˈIntergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO was established in 1961. Its purpose is to enhance marine research, exploitation and development, by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between the member states to meet the needs of users for data and information./end
