Iran-Argentina FMs Satisfied With Legal Talks On Amia Case

Tehran, Nov 1, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Argentinean counterpart Héctor Timerman, here Wednesday, declared satisfaction with legal talks between two countries’ experts on Amia Case. The two officials discussed the latest developments regarding the Amia issue by phone. The Iranian and the Argentine representatives have held legal talks about the 1994 bombing of the Argentine Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA) building in Geneva. Iranian and Argentine legal experts exchanged views on Monday and Tuesday, and it was agreed that the talks will continue. Iranian officials have declared that the date and venue for the next round of talks will be determined through diplomatic channels. Iran and Argentina announced on September 27th that they would continue their consultations until the case of Iran’s alleged involvement in the AMIA bombing is resolved. The announcement was made in a joint statement issued by Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi and his Argentine counterpart Hector Timerman after they held their first meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. At the time, the Iranian and Argentine officials stated that their lawyers would meet in Geneva in October. “The goal is to explore a legal mechanism that does not go against the systems of either Argentina or Iran,” the statement said. “This process will continue until a mutually agreed solution is found to all issues concerning the case,” it added. The case of the AMIA attack has remained a mystery for 18 years, and no significant information has been provided by the Argentine government on the main cause of the incident and the real culprits.
