Iran Concerned Over Egyptian National Conflict: FM

Tehran, July 8, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran is concerned about national conflict in Egypt, Iranˈs Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. ˈTehran has a close watch on ongoing developments in Egypt. The national conflict, dragging the countryˈs population to violence, has harmed national unity and national sovereignty, making enemies of Egypt happy,ˈ the foreign ministry said. The statement underlined serious adherence to the democratic process and using ways and means of materializing democracy in Egypt. It criticized destructive behavior of a group of hardline trends, which has divided the Egyptian community over the past months, and said that arrest of the countryˈs prominent personalities is worrying, underlining the need to respect the humanitarian principles. The foreign ministry said that heroic resistance of Egyptian people to the conspiracies of the Zionist regime is a golden page in history of Egyptian nation. It called for their vigilance against Tel Aviv attempt to abuse the current events for its own ends. It said that there is no doubt that Egyptian people will stand vigilant and firm against any efforts of enemies to divert the revolution from its genuine path. Iran has already condemned the Egyptian military for toppling the democratically elected government in reaction to three-day street protests. Iran said that street protests cannot justify to arrest a president elected by the nation only one year ago./end
