Iran, Kuwait, Convene First Joint Political Committee

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA – Iran and Kuwait held the first meeting of the joint political committee in Tehran. The meeting was headed by Iran's Foreign Ministry Deputy for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Kuwait's Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs Khaled Al-Jarallah. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and explored the latest regional developments. Abdollahian expressed Iran's readiness for all-out expansion of relations with Kuwait and implementation of the agreements already signed between the two countries. He further pointed to the threat posed to the region by such terrorist groups as Daesh. He said Iran has from the very beginning of the Daesh terrorist group underlined the menace by it even to its own political and financial supporters. The Foreign Ministry official stressed that Iran is not going to hesitate in fighting Daesh or wait for anti-ISIL Coalition measures. Abdollahian also hailed Kuwait's constructive role in regional developments and congratulated the Kuwaiti Emir for being honored by the United Nations as the Humanitarian Leader. The Kuwaiti official described ties between Tehran and Kuwait City as growing and stressed his country's firm will to expand mutual relations in all areas. Pointing to Iran's constructive and significant role, he urged cooperation to confront terrorism and highlighted the need for continuing collaboration among regional countries on the issue. He also renewed the invitation of Kuwait's Emir to the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and said the visit will be a point of departure in bilateral relations./end
