Iran MP Writes To Canadian PM To Protest HR Violation In Canada

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA – Head of Majlis Human Rights Committee Zohreh Elahiyan in an open letter to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper expressed deep concern over violation of human rights in the country. According to a report by Majlis News and Mass Media Bureau, the letter said, “We as Iranians inspired by religious teachings as a model of peaceful coexistence of minorities, express deep concern over the intolerable measures of the Canadian government against the people of the country. Iran is home to different ethnic groups with various cultures, located in a very insecure region, it noted. The statement added that some sections of the Canadians are living in substandard conditions and committing crimes against women are signs of organized discrimination against them. The fact that over 600 Canadian girls and women have gone missing or got killed was ignored by the Canadian government and this has aroused concern among the Canadians and the international community, the letter said, noting that, however, supportive coalitions are coming to the fore by the UN organizations and non-government organizations to probe into the case. “We will underline the cases of human rights violations in the country,” Elahiyan said, noting that as mothers and sisters we express concern over the unfair attitude towards the situation faced by the relatives of the 600 dead women and girls./end
