Mohamed Morsi Declared President Of Egypt, A Break With 60 Years Of Military Rule

Cairo, June 25, IRNA -- Mohammed Morsi was declared president of Egypt on Sunday by top elections commission official, making a break with six decades of military rule. Many Egyptians have rallied behind Morsi as a chance to finally rid the country of the old regime. The election result put an end to more than a year of mass protests and rising crime and economic woes after the 18-day revolution that forced dictator Hosni Mubarak to step down on Feb. 11, 2011. Sunday's announcement finally determined that Egypt will be ruled by a member of the long-suppressed political party and make a break with six decades of military rule./end
