Public Presence In Election, Greatest Weapon Against West

Tehran, June 15, IRNA – Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani Amoli here on Friday morning referred to the public presence in the ongoing elections as the ˈgreatest weapon against western states.ˈ He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after casting his votes for the 11th presidential and the fourth city and rural council elections which started nationwide this morning. Enemies of Iran and Islam have made great efforts to discourage Iranians from going to the polls but their efforts were aborted by peopleˈs high turnout at the elections. The elections are being held at some 60,000 polling stations nationwide and are simultaneously underway in 96 world countries. Some 51 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the presidential election The six candidates running in Iran’s presidential election are President of the Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications minister Mohammad Gharazi. /end
