Sharjah Ruler issues law on water resources; general cleanliness

Sharjah, Feb 13, 2013 (WAM) - H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah yesterday issued Law No. 1/2013 on preserving water resources of the emirate of Sharjah. The new law is aimed at regulating and rationalising consumption of water resources to ensure sustainability as well as preventing depletion and waste of water. The law determines the owners of underground water and the jurisdiction of the Sharjah Water and Electricity Authority in this regard, as well as the prioritised beneficiaries. H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi , has also issued law No. 2 for year 2013, on hygiene in the Emirate of Sharjah. The law aims to preserve the environment, public health and contribute to sustainable development, as well as maintain the aesthetic and cultural appearance of Sharjah. It also aims to ensure the disposal of wastes in the emirate in healthy ways through processing or reprocessing them in the scientific ways so as to re-use. The law prohibits people to throw or put or leave or bury or store or dispose any type of waste and residues on fields, roads, streets, lanes, alleys, sidewalks, beaches, spaces, rooftops, walls, balconies, skylights and other places, whether public or private. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
