Turkish economy minister warns France regarding resolution on Armenian allegations

ANKARA (A.A) - December 19, 2011 - Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan said regarding French resolution criminalizing the rejection of Armenian allegations on 1915 incidents that if the resolution was adopted, Joint Economic Committee meeting in France on January 24 would not be held. French President Nicolas Sarkozy is having a seizure of populism, and he is not acting reasonably, Caglayan told reporters on Monday. Caglayan said that Sarkozy should stop wasting his time with this matter, and make an explanation regarding Algeria, adding that Sarkozy should leave this issue to historians. Noting that French businessmen were uneasy and concerned, Caglayan said that the businessmen had a concern that the economic relations would be harmed. The resolution is expected to be voted on December 22 at general assembly in French Parliament. In January 2001, French Parliament adopted a law recognizing so-called Armenian genocide in 1915.
