UAE confirms its commitment to supporting capacity of international humanitarian organisations to provide aid

Upon the directives of the wise leadership to support the needy, refugees and those affected by conflicts, the UAE has expressed its keenness to further boost the capacities of international humanitarian bodies to provide aid worldwide. It cited the support to Palestinian brothers through ensuring decent living conditions for them as "one of the priorities of the UAE leadership and people in backing the Palestinian cause." This came in a statement delivered by Hala Lootah of the Ministry of International Co-operation and Development during the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East "UNRWA" Advisory Commission meeting, which was held in Amman this weekend. She added that the UAE's joining the UNRWA Advisory Commission would enable it to monitor closely the needs of Palestinian refugees and provide more assistance to them. Lootah noted that the UAE donated about $15 million to UNRWA in August. The UNRWA Commissioner-General, Pierre Krahenbuhl, praised the donations of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which constituted about 50 per cent of the total international donations received by the agency from all the international donors. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395288257669.html
