The President Receives A Message From The Director General Of The WHO Regarding The Improvement Of The Health Sector In Iraq
Baghdad / NINA /- The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today from the representative of the World Health Organization in Iraq, Ahmed Zueiten, a message from the Director-General of the Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, regarding the improvement of the health sector in Iraq.
A presidential statement said that the President of the Republic confirmed at the outset of the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Health, Salih al-Hasnawi, that Iraq had a permanent presence and contact with the World Health Organization, indicating that Iraqi doctors work in the most prestigious international hospitals.
He explained that the health situation in Iraq was considered the best in the region, but it was affected as a result of the wars and violence that the country witnessed.
The president indicated that "we suffer from a shortage of hospitals for children and we have a shortage of supportive medical staff," indicating that "the people of Halabja suffer from the lack of a hospital despite their suffering from the effects of chemical gas."
He stressed Iraq's keenness to cooperate with the world organization. Pointing out that "the government has developed a program that supports interest in the health sector and the improvement of health care for citizens, as this has been reinforced with financial support in the next budget."
The President of the Republic stressed the need for the displaced to return to their areas and end their human suffering, in cooperation with international community organizations.
For his part, the representative of the World Health Organization in Iraq praised the President's efforts to strengthen relations with the World Health Organization and improve the health situation in Iraq.
Zueiten pointed out that the global organization is an essential partner for advancing the health sector and ensuring the safety of food, water and air, through cooperation and coordination between the government and the organization.
Regarding the displaced, the representative of the World Health Organization affirmed that the organization supports the directives of the President of the Republic regarding the return of the displaced to their areas./ End
