Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, March 19 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers on Sunday shed light on an array of local and regional topics.
Locally, the Qatari dailies highlighted in their editorials Qatar's keenness on developing the agricultural sector and raising its efficiency, and the most prominent accomplishments made by the health sector since 2020.
At the regional level, the Qatari newspapers touched on the Syrian crisis, stressing Qatar's keenness to support all international efforts in cooperation with the United National and the international partners to resolve the Syrian crisis, preserve Syria's unity and sovereignty, and fulfill the aspirations of its people for security and stability.
Under the headline "Qatar Harnesses technology to Achieve Food Security," Al-Raya said that the State of Qatar has made the development of the agricultural sector and raising its efficiency a strategic option, aiming at achieving self-sufficiency, up to reaching the export stage; stressing that the State has achieved great successes within the endeavors to achieve food security, including localizing agriculture and achieving self-sufficiency in vital areas.
Al-Raya noted that Qatar has become an attractive destination for agricultural investment, achieving an annual growth rate of 15.2% in food production locally thanks to its huge potential in the agricultural technology and its commitment to environmental management, along with its strategic location and world-class technology infrastructure.
Qatar eyes food security and local production as a strategic choice of similar importance of other vital sectors that contribute to the country's economic growth. The agricultural technology sector in Qatar is also expected to play an important role in securing food supplies and stimulating the process of sustainable economic diversification, the paper added.
Al-Raya stressed the need for innovative agricultural technologies and solutions to stimulate this vital sector in the region light of the complex crises facing the world due to the geopolitical and climatic conditions that negatively affected the availability of food, and the high costs of commodities due to the disruption of supply chains.
The State of Qatar, through its national strategy for food security, aims at achieving self-sufficiency by 70% at the current stage, and reaching 100% self-sufficiency later, with the presence of more than 50 leading technology companies and research and development centers operating in Qatar, which reflects the Qatari tendency to harness technology in developing the agricultural sector and fortifying food security, Al-Raya concluded.
On the other hand, Al-Watan highlighted Qatar's great achievements the State of Qatar has made since 2020, including the opening of including the opening of Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital – the second largest HMC hospital in terms of size and capacity; the opening 6 new state-of-the-art health and wellness centers, taking the total number of Primary Health Care Corporation health centers to 31; and achieving the World Health Organization "Healthy City" status for all eight municipalities, becoming the first country in the world to achieve this status.
The paper pointed to the assertion of HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, in her address at the opening ceremony of the Middle East Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare 2023 yesterday, that "Despite these incredible achievements, we are committed to constantly moving forward. Throughout 2023, we will focus our efforts on implementing the new National Insurance Program; providing fast access to care for patients; and ensuring Qatar's healthcare system continues to be a regional leader for quality and safety in healthcare, delivering services on par with the world's best health systems."
All of this confirms the extent of the health sector's commitment to achieving the best results and experiences for patients, which has proven to be a great success in facing the COVID-19 pandemic, and in its effective and distinguished contribution to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Al-Watan said.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper said that after 12 years, the Syrian crisis is still without a political solution or justice and accountability for the horrific violations committed, despite half a million dead and millions of displaced people and refugees inside and outside the country, as well as the massive destruction of the infrastructure throughout Syria. All of this was exacerbated after the recent earthquake that hit Turkey and northern Syria on Feb. 6, claiming the lives of thousands in the Syrian territories and adding new suffering for the displaced and the population, the newspaper added.
The newspaper stressed that the State of Qatar has been standing behind the Syrian people who are living through difficult conditions by continuing to provide all forms of support and aid, the latest of which is the air bridge it established to send humanitarian and medical aid, in addition to sending rescue forces to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake.
Al-Sharq added that the State of Qatar plays its role as a major sponsor of the international, impartial and independent mechanism to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes committed in Syria since March 2011, in the hope of achieving comprehensive justice for the Syrian people and for all those affected, based on its belief that there is no sustainable peace without justice.
The newspaper concluded its editorial by saying that the State of Qatar supports and participates in all efforts made with the United Nations and its international partners to solve the Syrian crisis, adhering to its firm position that the only solution to the crisis is through finding a political solution agreed upon by all Syrian parties, in accordance with the Geneva Communique (1) and Security Council Resolution No. (2254), in a way that preserves the unity and sovereignty of Syria and fulfills the aspirations of its people for security and stability.
