52nd United Nations Special Session on world drug problem
Vienna, March 19, 2009 (Khabar) - The 52nd session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs has opened in Vienna. According to the report of the European Commission, the annual drug trafficking totals 320 billion US dollars across the world. It was stated that it’s impossible to battle with this evil single-handed at the session which was attended by the chairman of the anti-drugs control Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, Zhanat Suleimenov. Kazakhstan is bound to face the drug threat constantly. Over the last 6 years alone, about 63 thousand drug crimes have been detected in Kazakhstan. More than 143 tons of various drug have been withdrawn from illegal circulation. Therefore, the Central Asian regional information centre on fight against drug industry has been opened recently in the country.

- In his speech, the executive director of the UN office on drugs and crime Antonio Maria Costa noted the importance of opening the information centre on fight against drug industry particularly in Almaty. Kazakhstan has ratified all the three UN Conventions in the field of drug control.
The Political Declaration and a joint action plan for the next 10 years were approved at the 52nd session of the UN organization on narcotic drugs.
