Malaysia Faces Key Challenge Towards Long Term Economic Sustainability Of RE

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- A key challenge for Malaysia at present is to ensure the long-term economic sustainability of renewable energy (RE). "Thus, we need to implement the appropriate framework that allows the RE sector to become self-sustaining, while ensuring it does not burden taxpayers," said Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) acting Deputy Minister, SK Devamany. He said this when opening the Electric, Power and Renewable Energy 2017 Exhibition (EPRE 2017) here Thursday. The event is a timely platform for industry players to deliberate and share knowledge on advancing the development of RE. Devamany said the ministry was pleased to support yet another edition of the event, which has been earmarked as a premier platform for the RE and power industry in the ASEAN region. "The event certainly places Malaysia at the forefront of RE, in line with the government's aspirations to emerge as a significant global energy player in the near future," he added. Themed, "Essence of Energy", EPRE 2017 showcases the latest technology, equipment and machinery in the field of power generation, transmission and renewable technologies. The biennial event, from March 15-17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), features over 200 exhibitors from 27 countries, including three international pavilions by China, South Korea and Taiwan. Devamany later officiated the soft launch of the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017). Organised by KeTTHA, the IGEM 2017, the eighth in its series, will be held at the KLCC from Oct 11-13 this year. It targets business leads worth US$360.15 million (RM1.6 billion) through the convergence of more than 300 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors from over 20 countries. --BERNAMA
