136 Athletes Partake in Doha Round of World Swimming Marathon

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The organizing committee of the first round of FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2020 for a 10 Kilometers distance in Doha, announced the participance of 136 swimmers, (82 males and 54 females), from 34 countries, at the championship to be held on Saturday in Katara Cultural Village' beach. France lead the number of participating swimmers with 16 athletes, followed by Italy,14; Australia and Germany, 10 each and Hungary, 9. Two Qatari swimmers will be also competing, namely Abdulrahman Hisham Mohammed and Ahmad Tariq. In a press Statement, the Qatar Swimming Association (QSA) President Khaleel Al Jaber said that they have witnessed exciting marathons for both men and women last year, and they are expecting for this year as well another exciting round, because of the presence of worldwide athletes. He also said that they are hoping for the swimmers to get good conditions to compete in Katara's Beach. Preparations are on the right path, he said adding that organization team are working hard to complete them, and providing the best facilities for all participants coming to Doha. FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2020 consists of 10 rounds, the first of which is hosted by Doha and the second in Seychelles May 3; followed by Hungary on June 6; Portugal on June13; Canada on July 19; and 1st of and August 1; Macedonia on August 30; Taipei on September 19; China on October 15, and the tenth round in Hong Kong on the 20th of October. The prize for each of the competition's events is USD 30,000, to be distributed on the winners of the first 8 places in both men and women marathons, while the total prize of the final standing after the eight events is worth USD 350,000.
