AFC Confirms UAE's Al Wahda Won't Travel to Qatar Due to COVID-19 Infections of Their Players

Kuala Lumpur, September 10 (QNA) - Al Wahda have informed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that they are unable to travel to Qatar to compete in the AFC Champions League (West), where they currently occupy second place in Group A, after several members of the club tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement on its website, the AFC said that it has written to the United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAE FA) to inform them that the request by the UAE FA and the club for a postponement of the Group matches cannot be accommodated because of the advanced preparations in which many teams have already travelled to Qatar for the competition.
The matter will now be referred to the relevant AFC Committees for a decision in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Four teams from the UAE are competing in the group stage of the 2020 AFC Champions League Al Wahda, Shabab Al-Ahli Club, Al Ain and Sharjah FC.
Shabab Al-Ahli Club mission left today heading to Doha to compete, while Al Ain and Sharjah announced their departure on Friday. (QNA)
